RWCLL Spring Update

Hello RWCLL Families,

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy as we continue to deal with the impacts of COVID-19. This pandemic has affected our entire community in ways that no one could have anticipated.

We are pleased to announce that we ARE planning a Spring 2021 season! Registration for both players and coaches is still open! Please click here to register. The player registration fee will be $100.00, but no payment is due until we get approval to open our season. Please contact us at  if you are in need of financial assistance. RWCLL is here to support the community in getting kids playing baseball.
So what will the season look like? Over the past few months, the RWCLL Board has been exploring different options, with guidance from the California Department of Public Health, on how to safely run a 2021 Spring season. We believe we can get kids back on the field safely to enjoy some form of a 2021 season. However, baseball will likely look different this year, so we ask for your support to ensure a safe and fun season for the kids and our community.

Due to the uncertainty of what Spring 2021 will be like due to the pandemic, we have outlined below potential variations for the season:

  • If games are permitted (Team vs. Team competition), we will play baseball as usual and the league will run as we have in recent years.

  • If games are not allowed by the County or another governing body, we will enact a Spring Training and Skills Building Season where participants will practice as teams in bubbles/cohorts, following all safety protocols provided by California Department of Public Health, San Mateo County and Little League of America.

In both scenarios, we will still be having tryouts for our AAA, Majors and 50/70 divisions. Tryouts will be on February 27th. Specific times and protocols for tryouts will be released at a later date. If, and only if, we are not permitted to conduct tryouts, our upper division cohorts will be auto-drafted. We anticipate starting practices for all divisions at the beginning of March.

The RWCLL board finalized a detailed COVID-19 action plan which has been submitted to the Redwood City Parks & Recreation Department, RWC School District, and San Mateo County to allow us to play baseball in 2021. Some aspects of the plan will include mandatory face coverings, temperature checks, fan limits, equipment cleaning protocols, and social distancing protocols. Should you want to review the plan yourself, once it is approved, it will be posted on our website.

Over the next few weeks, we will give periodic updates as we receive updates from RWC Parks & Rec, San Mateo County, and District 52 Little League. While the Spring 2021 RWCLL baseball season will look different, our main goal is to get kids back on the field and enjoying this great game as soon as possible, while respecting and adhering to local Health and Safety protocols. As we have done since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will adjust our plans and modify play as needed.

In Solidarity,

Mike Amoroso

RWCLL President

Looking for Umpires! Sign up Today!

Did you ever think that you could be a great umpire? Do you want to make a difference in your child’s Little League experience, but don’t have time to coach? Well here’s your chance. Umpiring is a way to get on back on a Little League field and lead the kids of the Redwood City Little League through fast, fun, fair, and safe Little League games. We’re looking for adults and youths 10-18* to help umpire in our Minors, Major, and Big Field Divisions. It’s a challenge, lots of fun and it’s a great way to participate in Little League even if you only have a few hours to offer.

*To umpire at age 10-12, you must be currently playing in RWCLL Majors.

How do I get started?
First, sign up by completing our interest form by Clicking Here.  We will then send you an invite you to one of our umpire training sessions. You’ll be trained by experienced RWCLL umpires on the rules and field mechanics. You’ll sign up for games with our scheduler to umpire games that fit your schedule, usually with a partner. All RWCLL umpires are issued an umpire shirt, a hat, a ball/ strike indicator, and a Little League Rule Book.

Youth Umpiring-A First Job
We look at our youth umpire program with pride as we have trained a number of former players to develop leadership skills on the baseball field. As a youth umpire, you will earn $20 - $35 per game or if you want to earn community service hours in lieu of pay we can do that as well. For many kids, this is their first paid job. Also, just ask a dad or mom who has umpired with their son or daughter. Umping games together can be a rewarding, enriching shared experience that you will talk about for years.

Welcome the Redwood City Little League Umpire Corps. Play ball!
