President's Message regarding 2021 Seasion

Dear Families of RWC LL,

The cancellation of our 2020 Spring and Fall Ball seasons has not sat well with me as League President and I am sure disappointed many of you in our community.  While San Mateo County is still in a holding pattern in regards to youth sports, this will not stop RWC LL from preparing for a 2021 season. Recently, RWC LL submitted a plan to the Redwood City Parks & Rec and San Mateo County which could allow us to return to play in 2021. We await their response and will keep you informed.

At this time, we are unsure of what next season is going to look like during this pandemic. Below is a vision for potential variations for the Spring 2021 season:

  • If games are permitted, we will play baseball as usual and the league will run as we have in recent years (besides 2020 as the exception).

  • If games are not allowed, we will practice as teams in bubbles/cohorts, following all safety protocols provided by San Mateo County and Little League of America.

  • Tryouts for the upper divisions may be held over a few weekends, rather than one weekend as we have in the past. If tryouts are not allowed per the County, we will do a blind draft to create teams.

For interested families, Registration will open on Monday, Nov 2nd via the RWCLL website. ***Registration fees will not be due at this time.*** Instead, we will “waitlist” every player until we get confirmation of the options listed above.  Families will be able to make their final enrollment decisions once we share the play model that we can offer, and payment would be due at that time.

In the meantime, you may notice that Kiwanis Field will be undergoing a much-needed renovation, which was approved by the Board on October 22nd, 2020. Kiwanis Field has always been the “marquee field” of our league and the improvements will allow it to continue to shine while upgrading our facilities and player safety. We thank all the families and league sponsors, past and present, for supporting this endeavour via your registration fees, donations, team sponsorship fees, and Kiwanis banner fees.

We are also planning a Field Cleanup Day in the near future this fall, and we invite our Community  to help clean our fields from those pesky weeds. In anticipation of having a 2021 season, please tentatively mark your calendars for March 20, 2020 for picture day and our annual Hit-A-Thon Fundraiser. As mentioned in previous emails, our Board is more than ready to play ball as soon as possible!

Finally, please join us in wishing Michael Bobadilla a fond farewell as he has decided to step down from the RWC LL Board, should you see him around town. Michael served on the Board of Directors for almost a decade in numerous positions, ranging from but not limited to: AA Coordinator, Coaches Coordinator, League President, and Vice-President. Michael has been the mastermind behind the upper division drafts, making sure each player is slotted in the right division, and also worked tirelessly sending communications to all of us RWC LL families. We thank him for his dedication to our community and hope to honor his legacy as we move forward, but we will miss you, President Bobadilla!.

Sincerely,

Mike Amoroso & Board of RWC LL

Looking for Umpires! Sign up Today!

Did you ever think that you could be a great umpire? Do you want to make a difference in your child’s Little League experience, but don’t have time to coach? Well here’s your chance. Umpiring is a way to get on back on a Little League field and lead the kids of the Redwood City Little League through fast, fun, fair, and safe Little League games. We’re looking for adults and youths 10-18* to help umpire in our Minors, Major, and Big Field Divisions. It’s a challenge, lots of fun and it’s a great way to participate in Little League even if you only have a few hours to offer.

*To umpire at age 10-12, you must be currently playing in RWCLL Majors.

How do I get started?
First, sign up by completing our interest form by Clicking Here.  We will then send you an invite you to one of our umpire training sessions. You’ll be trained by experienced RWCLL umpires on the rules and field mechanics. You’ll sign up for games with our scheduler to umpire games that fit your schedule, usually with a partner. All RWCLL umpires are issued an umpire shirt, a hat, a ball/ strike indicator, and a Little League Rule Book.

Youth Umpiring-A First Job
We look at our youth umpire program with pride as we have trained a number of former players to develop leadership skills on the baseball field. As a youth umpire, you will earn $20 - $35 per game or if you want to earn community service hours in lieu of pay we can do that as well. For many kids, this is their first paid job. Also, just ask a dad or mom who has umpired with their son or daughter. Umping games together can be a rewarding, enriching shared experience that you will talk about for years.

Welcome the Redwood City Little League Umpire Corps. Play ball!
